HAS BEING A PART OF THE LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY HAD ANY IMPACT ON YOUR DESIGN CAREER?
Working with my Aging Clients, both Straight and LGBTQIA+ , I have developed insights into designing with their specific needs in mind. Ease of maneuvering a home, kitchen and bath designs which engage their needs as well the aesthetics which engage their senses for an overall better living experience. We want to work more with the Younger Generation within the support locations for them. Resource Center is a perfect example of the alignment of Young and Aging.
WHEN DID YOU REALIZE THAT YOU WANTED TO BECOME AN INTERIOR DESIGNER?
I was only 15 when the creative bug nudged me. Few years later I met several older Designers, they took me into this world and showed me the layers of possibilities in Design. It was that moment in time I realized my true path in life to come. I wish I could talk to that young man now and inspire him, knowing what I do now.
WHO WAS THE FIRST INTERIOR DESIGNER TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION ON YOU?
Charles Faudree was one of the instrumental designers I met in my youth. His Candor and Charismatic Persona was so engaging. He taught me I was great as I was, and showed me the level of designer I could be.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT INFLUENCE YOU, ASIDE FROM FURNITURE AND DÉCOR?
International Architecture is a strong guide for many of my designs.
I transfer what I see in this architecture into many of my designs, from Cabinetry to Staircase Railings, Light Fixtures to Furniture. Architecture is a never-ending influence for design.
WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO BASICS?
Color palette designs are the forefront of beautiful control within my designs. Color allows the other elements of a home to come together. With this carefully curated selection, subtlety and boldness can commingle to create magic.
ARE YOU SEEING ANY PARTICULAR STYLE REQUESTS TRENDING AMONGST YOUR CLIENTS?
Yes! Most of my clients are looking for my Sustainable Elements as important features in their homes. As well, absolute quality and comfort. Nesting is a staple feature in most of our designs. That is creating comfortable luxury that is calming and provides comfort in this “insecure” world.
WHAT’S BEEN YOUR CAREER HIGHLIGHT TO DATE?
Biggest Highlights are to be asked to collaborate with other designers I have Admired. Now to find out they Admire me just as much.
As well, having design firms referring clients to us, knowing our aesthetic style of work in design. Repeatedly we have been referred due to our stellar design outcomes for these clients.
Finally, being named “Power Player” by Modern Luxury.
WHAT’S THE MOST TREASURED ITEM IN YOUR OWN HOME?
A Stark Leopard Rug I found at an Estate Sale. The group had no idea what they had, till I lit up and bought it in a minute!
My 2 Siamese are my other Treasures, Ruby & Bevel are Stark lovers now too..
